A miniature torsion box (49 x 25 x 4)
Before carving into the tough, recalcitrant ironbark, I first carved this pattern into a laminated acacia board. I used a set of small hobby gouges bought from Japan.
This table, measuring 97cm x 50cm x 50cm, is made from Australian ironbark. When completed, the top will feature a carved pattern inspired by Rorschach ink art. This is my entry for the 2018 AWR Studio Furniture Competition.
A progress shot of the carved “butterfly” pattern. Inspired by Rorschach ink blots, “Wings” is a tribute to Matthew Harding - the Australian sculptor, craftsman and designer/maker - who tragically passed away in early 2018.
A simple stationary box made from jarrah, marine ply and MDF (35.5 x 24.5 x 7.5)
The top slides away to reveal storage compartments for pencils, marking gauge, tri-squares and compass.
